hey! Scoble’s covering RescueTime, built by my buddy Joe Hruska!
They bill themselves as the “anti-Twitter.” What is it? It’s RescueTime, a service that keeps track of what…
Somebody asked me today who Julia was on my Tumbleroll, and I had to explain that she’s this magical weirdo in NYC who apparently is as close to a real-life Carrie Bradshaw as there is.
I found her through the tumbleroll of one of the guys who created Tumblr. While she may be a writer, and a model, and a fashionista of the NY scene, what got me the very first time was the goofy lipsync video of this girl singing along to Journey with her iPod on the way home. I was hooked. Anybody who puts their own weirdness out there like that deserves some credit.
This is sort of proof that people like Julia, and Gary Vaynerchuk, and Robert Scoble, who are authentically themselves, even if they’re a little goofy - especially if they’re a little goofy - make the strongest personal brands. And this is the age of the personal brand.
OK, being beautiful doesn’t hurt her either. BUT - there are lots of beautiful people out there. That’s not why she’s interesting. There are far fewer people who are authentically human. Human interests us. We can’t help it.
